Traffic calming – Naila aggressively advocated for traffic reduction measures to include supporting road diets on existing roads within Herndon. Naila understands that reducing the amount of physical space on a road corridor devoted to cars is safer for pedestrians and cyclists. For Naila, traffic calming solutions ultimately benefit everyone in the community.
Sidewalk improvement – Coupled with reducing traffic on our roads, Naila believes safe sidewalks are an important part of any community. Investing sidewalks encourages more people to use them which is a safer alternative to walking on the side of the road. Improving our sidewalks is just one part of a multi-pronged approach to public safety.
Scam protection – Naila has friends who have lost their hard-earned money in phone and email scams. These scams can affect anyone regardless of age or background. This is why Naila offers her constituents training on how to better spot scams.
Quality of life
Town green space – Having worked in real estate for years, Naila knows the dangers of unchecked urban development. This is why Naila champions the protection of our current green spaces as well as the creation new green spaces with new construction. Naila believes that everyone deserves the opportunity to enjoy nature and the natural beauty of Herndon.
No casinos – Naila knows the unwanted consequences of casinos and the dangers of gambling addiction. This is why Naila consistently and unequivocally opposes bringing casinos to Herndon. Naila proudly supported the NO CASINO bill in Reston and Tysons Corner.
Affordable housing and workforce development – From her experience in real estate, Naila keenly understands the need for everyone to have a fair chance of buying into the American dream. It benefits no one if those who work in our key jobs in Herndon cannot afford to live in Herndon. This also means having the opportunity to earn livable wages in Herndon. As a member of the Herndon Town Council, Naila has supported affordable housing and workforce development options for residents and will always continue to do so.
Public health
COVID-19 - Naila knows that a healthy public benefits everyone. That is why she was an early champion of providing free COVID-19 vaccines to the people of Herndon and pushed of a Vulnerability Equity Clinic where lower income residents could get the healthcare they desperately needed. Naila tirelessly collaborated with Fairfax County Health Department and the Herndon Giant Pharmacy to make this initiative a reality for Herndon’s working class.
Food insecurity – Fighting food insecurity is something engrained in Naila and a fundamental part of who she is. Food is a fundamental human right. No one deserves to go hungry. Naila believes that and helped establish free food distribution opportunities in Herndon for those in need.
